Description:
This painting is a profound visual expression of the Hermetic axiom “Sicut supra, sic infra” – As above, so below – illustrating the correspondence between the divine realm (macrocosm) and the earthly plane (microcosm).
The composition is distinctly divided into two registers, seamlessly connected by a stream of light.
In the upper register (supra), a celestial couple – male and female archetypes – are depicted within a divine sphere. They hold together a radiant orb, a central sun symbolizing the primordial source of creation. Surrounding them float numerous golden, ethereal spheres in a heavenly expanse.
From this central orb, powerful rays of light descend into the lower register (infra), illuminating the terrestrial realm below. This earthly landscape features a fantastical bay and cities built upon rocky cliffs, all bathed in golden light – a reflection of the divine realm above.
In the foreground, on a cliff edge, three elongated human figures stand in contemplative reverence, gazing upward with arms raised. Their posture signifies awareness of the sacred connection between the spiritual and material worlds.
The painting is a visual meditation on the unity of creation, revealing the idea that the physical world mirrors higher, divine laws and structures.
